Lindsey Graham: ‘How Am I Losing To These People?’

Lindsey Graham: ‘How Am I Losing To These People?’

In an appearance Monday on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) delivered a Don Rickles-style take on the major players in the presidential campaign — and a Rodney Dangerfield-esque perspective on his own campaign.

“Can I give you my take on this race?” Graham said, setting up the jokes. “You’ve got the two frontrunners on the Democratic side, right? The number-two guy went to the Soviet Union on his honeymoon – and I don’t think he ever came back. The leader felt that she was ‘flat broke’ after her husband was president for eight years — and that’s maybe why they stole the china.”

(For some context on the claim that the Clintons “stole the china” from the White House, see this fact check. There was a lack of consistent record keeping as to whether various gifts made to the White House during Bill Clinton’s presidency were for the Clintons personally, or for the White House as an institution. Ultimately, the Clintons either returned or personally paid for a large number of items, but were not subject to any legal penalties.)

Then Graham turned his attention to the Republicans.

“On our side, you’ve got the number-two guy trying to kill somebody at 14, and the number-one guy is high energy — and crazy as hell. How am I losing to these people?”

In its 920-page policy manual the word “abortion” appears nearly 200 times.
